Huia Pinot Gris, '02 ($18) **** (4-Stars) Moderate gold in color A fragrant mix of floral, citrus and apple-pear scents Weighty, somewhat viscous in the mouth; yet it offers crisp acidity and a pleasant finish Quite a good mate with sushi rolls, baked mussels; even edamame. This will also work with many holiday foods - turkey, ham, etc. |

The New Zealanders made their mark on the world wine map with Sauvignon Blanc. I predict they are going to make a more elegant mark with their Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Kiwis don't produce huge amounts of wine, thus the prices are a little higher. Yet, the quality is usually good. Huia is a very reliable winery from the South Island of Kiwiland |
