Basic Juice Review

Gentil, 'Hugel,' 2002

*** (3 -Stars)

Price: $11

Producer: Gentil

Origin: Alsace, France

Type of wine: Dry white wine made from a blend of Alsatian grapes: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat & Sylvaner

Try it with: Very good with Mediterranean and Asian foods – gyros, sweet & sour pork, yogurt sauces

Date Reviewed: July 2004

A well made wine for those wanting a change of pace in the Chardonnay/Pinot Grigio-dominated white wine world. This wine is medium gold in color with straw, floral and honey scents. There are also less obvious pear and citrus aromas hanging around the glass. For eleven bucks, Hugel is a surprisingly complex wine. In the mouth it starts off crisp and tart and then evolves into a smooth, ‘weighty’ wine. It can stand up to lots of garlic, onions and spices. Yum.
