Basic Juice Review

Concha y Toro ‘Casillero del Diablo,’ Merlot, 2002

*** (3-Stars)

Price: $8

Producer: Concha y Toro

Origin: Chile

Type of wine: Dry red wine made from Merlot grapes

Try it with: A good happy hour wine. Fine with pizza, burgers, spaghetti

Date Reviewed: Dec. 2003

Concha y Toro makes a number of value-priced wines. Casillero del Diablo Merlot is far and away the best of their under ten dollar wines. This is a bright ruby Merlot with a distinct ‘oaky’ nose of toasted vanilla. Scents of ripe cherry with hints of cream can also be found. In the mouth ‘del Diablo is medium bodied with slightly sharp tannins. Expected flavors of vanilla and red cherry linger slightly. A good, value-priced Merlot.
