Perrier Jouët NV Brut ($30) **** (4-Stars) Moderate-gold in color with a steadily streaming bead (small consistent bubbles) Scents of crisp peach, pineapple; a floral bouquet and that chamagney biscuitiness Fairly full bodied in the mouth along with a nice, lasting finish This bubbly is well-built in the sense that it will pair nicely with a hearty autumn meal of roasted pork loin and root vegetables. |

Got $30 to spend on wine? If you aren't sure that bottle of Big Name Cabernet is worth it, may I suggest Champagne? Champagne is one of the few wines where the more you spend the better wine you get. Case in point: Perrier Jouët (pronounced pair-ee-ay jsh-oo-et) of Epernay, France charges around thrity bucks for its 'entry level' nonvintage Brut. Champagne houses build their reputations on a so-called "house style." This style is usually introduced to the drinker in the form of nonvintage bruts. Perrier Jouët's NV Brut is one of the best I've had in quite some time.. |
