Sauvignon Blanc (saw-vin-yon blonk)

SauvBlanc is a bit heaver than Riesling. This grape makes a medium-bodied white wine. It is also very aromatic. Wine geeks often compare its aroma to gooseberries. Personally, I’ve never smelled a gooseberry. I would describe Sauvignon Blanc as having citrus-like scents – especially grapefruit. It also has a ‘grassiness’ or herbal quality to it. Some Sauvignon Blanc may remind you of wet grass or even alfalfa. This grape does indeed possess unique scents.

Some Sauvgnon Blanc tips:

  1. To burn the unique character of Sauvignon Blanc into your memory bank, try one from New Zealand. The Kiwis make very distinctive wine from this grape.
  2. Having seafood? Try a Sauvignon Blanc. It works especially well with shellfish.
  3. Have you ever seen a white wine labeled, “Fumé Blanc?” This is just another name for the Sauvignon Blanc.
